About The Hosts: Shaan Puri and Sam Parr

Hosts Puri and Parr are no strangers to the world of business.

After gaining prominence as the CEO of the social networking site Bebo, Shaan Puri led the company through a series of transformations, including its acquisition by Twitch for a total of $25 million. He’s also an angel investor and chairman of the cryptocurrency newsletter, The Milk Road.

Sam Parr’s origins are a bit more humble. After starting a hot dog stand during his college years, Parr soon realized that online stores were much easier to run! His various successes (and failures) led him to create The Hustle newsletter, which he sold to HubSpot in 2021.

Today, Parr and Puri have turned their keen insights into a successful podcast, boasting nearly 500,000 subscribers on YouTube.

About The Show

My First Million posts 2-3 episodes a week, typically on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Episode Highlights and Content

Parr and Puri have built a sizable following on YouTube and it appears that their podcast is an extension of the successful vlog.

This is most obvious in the episode titles, which would feel like clickbait if not for the fact that this duo actually delivers on their promises. Fans of the show frequently praise the host’s ability to wrap solid business advice in an entertaining package.

But it isn’t just listeners who are avid fans of the show. Past guests include Gary Vee, comedian Hasan Minhaj, and pro-skateboarder-turned-entrepreneur Rob Dyrdek.

Episode Format

Even though many of the episodes are interviews, Parr and Puri don’t rely on guests for information or entertainment. In fact, some of their most successful episodes are just the two of them sharing ideas and having an enlightening conversation.

The lesson here seems to be: know when to use a guest host, but don’t feel like you have to do the same thing every time. A bit of variation can help keep things fresh.

Most episodes last between 1 and 1.5 hours. This may take a long time to record and edit, but their successful platform proves that listeners will stick around if the content is interesting enough.

Podcast Website

Parr and Puri built the website for My First Million using Podpage’s revolutionary software.

The website’s clean, minimal layout allows listeners to find what they’re looking for right away, while episode pages have been designed with an easy-to-use format complete with bulleted show notes.

A store link allows fans of the show to purchase merch, which gives Parr and Puri a chance to monetize their show.
